Would I Lie to You?

Would I lie to you, sweet woman of my dreams?

To you who brings me daytime joy, and soothes my nighttime screams,

You who makes the roses bloom, and makes the sunlight glisten,

Would I lie to you, my love? Come walk with me and listen.

If you were blind, I'd lie to you, to brighten up your night,

I'd lie if you were dying,  walk with you towards the light,

Yes lie I would, quite easily, to soothe the pain you show,

But lie to you to save myself, this lie you'll never know.

Were I to die of something slow, that made me fade away,

Again I'd lie to make you go, I would not let you stay,

I'd say I felt no love for you, and make you leave me be,

But lie I won't to save myself, or watch you die with me.

And if love no more bloomed in your heart, I'd lie and let you go,

I'd lie so grand to hide the pain, your leaving me might show,

To make it that much easier, your heart to be set free,

But lie I can't to save myself, and keep you near to me.

So many lies a man might tell, a woman near his heart,

Lies to keep her near him, or keep them both apart,

And just like them, I'd lie to you, to make you come or go,

But lie to you to save myself, this lie you'll never know.

Would I lie to you, sweet woman of my world?

Yes lie I would, quite fluently, with gaudy flags unfurled,

I'd lie to bring you happiness, in each and every way,

Oh yes, my love, I'd lie to you, forever and a day.
