a maiden's song

With great and boundless mystery,
I watch you as your body sleeps.
So calm and strong, your soft caress
Reaches the shore and cradles me.

A thousand eves I've dreamed with you,
The moonlit stars held in your hands.
Mysterious, dark, you know too well
Of secrets whispered, broken, banned.

Alive, I've watched your towered form
Unharnessed, stand against the sky-
While shards of light and rage pour down;
Thunderous, lashing, crashing tide.

Embattled, battered, steadfast still
Victorious you have always been.
My rock, great fortress of the deep...
Your face, though faceless I have seen.

Once, in a bottle I sealed my heart,
Then set it free upon your crest-
In awe I watched till was no more,
Was long ago, I first confessed.

Upon your mane I've heard my name,
"Sweet Maiden rise, come near'r to thee."
Unchallenged, bold magnificence,
I've loved you since mine eyes could see.

Your ancient arcs and sweeping song;
Great vessels, gulls, they all have danced.
Tho bittersweet, you bear their souls
In all their eyes, A deep romance.

And as for me yes, faithfully
My heart, it never reached the shore;
My love, I'll live and die with thee...
Adrift at sea, forevermore.
