A Fireside Chat
Come sit beside the fire, love,
This tawny Port we'll share.
It's taste bites gently on the tongue,
Yet sweet, beyond compare.
We'll toast marshmallows in the flames,
I'll watch you pet my cat.
Come sit beside the fire, love,
We'll have a lovely chat.
Come join me on the sofa, love,
Gaze deep into my eyes.
Come talk about your tales of woe,
And men who've told you lies.
I'll listen well, attentively,
Till night turns into day.
Come join me on the sofa, love,
I'll wipe your tears away.
Come look out the window, love,
And watch dawn break with me.
We've finished off this fine old Port,
Like sailor's gone to sea.
You seem much better since we've talked,
And life seems not so bad.
Come look out the window, love,
I'm glad you're not as sad.
Come sit beside the fire, cat,
My heart brims full of sorrow.
The one I love has come and gone,
I'm left with no tomorrow.
You see, my cat, I'm just her friend,
My dreams have flown away.
Come sit beside the fire, cat,
There's nothing more to say.
